FAQ

Our Smooth Move Associates are frequently asked a number of questions concerning a customer's move. Here are some pre-move questions that may interest you...
1When is the best time to move?
The busiest time to move if you are located in the low-country is from March 1st through September 15th. Moving companies are always busier at the end of each and at the end of each month. Generally, the earlier part of each week and month tends to be the best time no matter what company you use.
2When should I begin contacting moving companies for estimates?
Four to six weeks is plenty of time for you to have a moving company come out and help you with a estimate and the most cost effective plan for you and your family. If you call us at Smooth Move we will have an associate to your house the same day or we may even be able to provide you an estimate over the phone.
3What is a binding estimate?
A binding estimate is a contract that specifies the exact cost of the move based on the services requested or deemed necessary at the time of the estimate. If additional services are requested or required at either destination, the total cost will increase. At Smooth Move, you will be billed for actual time incurred which often may be less than our original estimate. Our estimating process is generally very accurate for in-home estimates.
4What is a non-binding estimate?
A non-binding estimate charges you according to the actual weight of your shipment and the actual cost of the services that are performed. You will still go though the estimating process to determine what your shipment may cost. To verify the weight of your shipment, the Smooth Move driver will weigh the truck prior to loading your shipment. Once your shipment is loaded, the driver will weigh the truck again. All other charges will be calculated at the drop off destination. If there are any additional charges that are incurred during the delivery process, the driver will provide you with the additional cost.
5What is a Bill of Lading?
Every mover is required to prepare a bill of lading. The bill of lading is the receipt for your goods and the contract with your mover for their transportation. The driver who loads your shipment must give you a copy of the bill of lading. Please read over your bill of lading. It is a list of each charge and amount that is to be paid at the time of the move.
6What method of payment will be accepted?
If you decide to use Smooth Move, we accept all major credit cards, cash and check.
7How long will my move take?
A general rough estimate is one hour of loading and unloading per room. There are other factors, such as stairs or bulky items that could affect this estimate; but our goal at Smooth Move is one hour for loading and unloading. We offer both over the phone and on-site estimates for larger moves.
8Do you require a deposit?
We do not require a deposit for local moves estimated to be completed the same day. A deposit is required on long distance and nationwide moves. The deposit is fully refundable should the move be cancelled for any reason subject to proper notice being given as defined under our cancellation policy below.
9What is your cancellation policy?
We ask for at least a 72-hour notice to be given in order to cancel a move and you will not be subject to any charges or cancellation fees. Moves cancelled without proper notice may be subject to our minimum moving charge of $250.00 or forfeiting a deposit.
