As a local moving company, we care about our customers both before, during, and after your move. Today’s post is the third part in our series on important things to do after you’re at your new home. So far, we’ve discussed unpacking and organizing your home and how to update important records with your new information. We’d now like to help you learn how to get involved in your new community.

Although it’s easy to get caught up in all the work that must be done after you move, the social aspects of your new life shouldn’t be ignored. Here are three ways to feel more at home in your new surroundings.

  1. Meet people and make friends. It sounds like advice you’d give to your kids, but it’s worth repeating for adults, too. Getting out of the house and talking to people will help you focus on your present circumstances instead of what you left behind. Introduce yourself to your neighbors, hang out with coworkers, join a club, or volunteer with a local charity.
  2. Help your pets adjust. Moving can be just as much of an adjustment for your pets as it is for your family. Spend time with your pets, don’t leave them alone for long periods of time, and help them learn their way around your new home and neighborhood.
  3. Explore your new city. Drive or walk around your new city and/or neighborhood to find the nearest gas stations, grocery stores, banks, and other essential places. Explore different routes to different parts of town and discover the hidden gems that make your new city special.

Here at Smooth Move, we believe in being involved in the communities we serve in Rock Hill, Fort Mill, and York County, SC. We hope you’ll find ways to do the same in your new town or neighborhood. If you’re moving, get a free quote today from our local moving company.
